Interactive Button in Sharepoint 2010

with one comment

In Sharepoint Designer (SPD) 2007 one of the items on the Insert menu is “Interactive Button”.  These are essentially graphical buttons with a Hyperlink attached.  Coosing the option from the Insert menu opens a dialogue that will let you select the style of button (there’s a number of basic styles each available in a range of different colours) you want,  set the text on the button,  set the hyperlink URL,  set the size of the button and a number of other options.  When you click OK it creates the button (3 images; Normal, Hover and Pressed) and inserts the code to make it all work.  Making a button takes a minute or two from clicking the Insert menu to having the button sitting on your page.  We use a lot of these, I think the most we have on one page is around 50, which is a lot, but pages with 7 – 10 of them aren’t unusual.

Now we’re moving to Sharepoint 2010 and so SPD 2010 I’m unable to find how to insert them.  I’ve tried poking around.  I’ve tried searching the help.  I’ve tried Googling.  I’ve tried looking in a book.  So far no luck.

Currently pinning my hopes on a question I asked in the forums attached to said book.

If we can’t use them then I’ve got problems.  I could, of course, manually create the button in a graphiucs package and insert them but then a job that used to take minutes could take hours and a page I would be able to do in a day would take weeks.  I suppose I could create the buttons in SPD 2007 then copy over but this would add time and require that we still have a WSS 3.0 server, not going to happen.
